Please provide a short personal biography about yourself.
At 24 years old, I am grateful to have found a career in locksmithing that perfectly aligns with my natural fascination for mechanical workings and problem-solving. After graduating high school, needing full-time work I was fortunate to secure an apprenticeship with Prestige Lock Service.
Over the past six years, I have been presented with opportunities including winning Rotary Apprentice of the Year in 2020, Achieving second runner-up in the 2022 MLA John Andrews Apprentice of the Year competition. In addition to furthering my experience through short-term roles at various companies, including BHP.
My passion for the trade is evident in my attention to detail and pride in my work. This dedication has enabled me to take on the role of Workshop Supervisor, where I have further developed my skills beyond hands-on work. In this position, a focus on training apprentices has contributed to my own growth as a well-rounded locksmith.

What are some of the skills & abilities necessary for someone to succeed as a locksmith?
Like any trade, Locksmithing is nothing without the customers we serve. The ability to gain the trust of clients immediately through professionalism and expertise is something that has helped as a younger individual.
Strong interpersonal skills are integral to both understanding a customers needs, but also making sure they have full understanding of the service to ensure the upmost trust is maintained.
I believe a successful locksmith possesses adaptability in situations as things change onsite, problem solving to achieve certain levels of security expectations and importantly an ethical approach.

What key issues do you think will affect the locksmith industry in the coming decade? And how do you think these should be approached?
In the coming decade, the locksmith industry will face various challenges, including the advancement of technology, locksmiths should focus on continuous professional development to stay ahead of new technologies to provide a up to date service to the end users. To make the most of offered trainings and opportunities and taking initiative to learn of new products.
Additionally, we have the ability to provide expert services where through quality work and reputation will help differentiate trustworthy locksmiths in a market where unlicensed and unqualified 'scammers' are emerging. A focus on licensing will assist long term, however bringing awareness to the public through facets like social media allows communities to become vigilant.

Becoming Australia’s best young locksmith would be a significant milestone in my career, highlighting a combination of technical skills, dedication, and passion for the trade.
Over the past 6 years I have made apparent my constant hunger to learn and further my knowledge taking every opportunity presented to me and to teach others. This commitment was brought forward when I was invited back to my high school to speak about a career in locksmithing and the impact it has had on my life since graduation.
The title of ABYL is an awesome opportunity to assist in becoming a prominent individual within the industry that I aspire to be and contribute in the development of locksmithing locally and Australia-wide.
